If you have recently bought a steel building, or intend to purchase one in the future, you should contact your all-steel structure manufacturer or contract manufacturer to make sure you understand all the relevant considerations to the trucking of your steel structure.

Once your steel structure assembly has been through the blueprinting and engineering processes, the structure will be sent to the erection site. This is usually undertaken by a regular trucking company, although some steel building providers do haul via their own vehicles. All arrangements will be finalized by the steel structure firm according to the contract. Prior to being agreed to in the building purchase order, appropriate accommodations for transport should be examined carefully, as any modifications to transport agreements made close to the shipping date can be expensive for the customer.

The trucking company is responsible for the receipt of the steel building parts at the production facility and the movement of these items to the project site. Unless the obligation is given to a general contractor or erector, it is the responsibility of the owner to sign for the structure and all building components at your project site or other address. It is also your responsibility to ensure the correct address is specified.

When the transaction is completed you must select a shipping date with a steel building supplier or manufacturer. Production of a steel structure, combined with design and equipping, can take a number of days, or even several months during the active construction period. You should allow sufficient time for the finalization of any building design, fabrication, and hauling.

Some buyers prefer to have their all-steel structure sent to the job site weeks before the set up process is to begin. Many steel buildings are produced with protective and primer coatings already applied, but the client should provide covering materials to shield all materials from the elements. You need to do this even if the materials will be sitting at the project location for just a short time.

Prior to transportation of the building, it is the customer’s responsibility to ensure that preparations are made to set up the building. Many building erectors and contractors are booked out in advance during the busy construction period. A good procedure is to acquire a qualified erector first and secure a date feasible for the customer, building producer and building firm to expect the structure.
